Playa Hermosa: a surfer's beach

Just south of Jacó, Playa Hermosa is a long, dark-sand beach with strong, consistent beach-break waves. It attracts experienced surfers from around the world and has hosted surf competitions. The town is small and low-key – a strip of surf hotels, guesthouses and rental homes along the beach, with more homes in the hills behind.

This is not the calmest beach for swimming, but it is a fantastic place to surf, walk at sunset and slow down.

Massage for surf recovery

Paddling for hours loads the shoulders, upper back and neck, while duck-diving and pop-ups work the core and hips. Many of our Playa Hermosa guests book:

• Deep tissue massage – slow, firm work on the shoulders, lats and lower back.
• Sports massage – targeted recovery for legs, hips and shoulders between sessions.
• Relaxation massage – on flat days or the evening before travelling home.

Booking between the morning and evening surf windows works well: surf early, eat, get a massage at midday, rest, and you are ready for sunset.

Couples and groups

Surf trips are often shared. Book a couples massage for two, or a group massage for surf camps and friends sharing a house.

Pricing

$75 per hour per person, travel to Playa Hermosa included. A 25% deposit reserves your appointment. Hours are 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily.
